Symptom

During the processing of actual data in the SAP Standard System a number of characteristics are blocked against changes in the characteristics derivation.
It must be possible to change one or more of these characteristics via the CO-PA derivation type.

Reason and Prerequisites

The CO-PA update logic provides, that certain standard characteristics (like for example ‘Customer’ or ‘Product’) as well as characteristics which representorganizational units(like for example ‘Sales organization’ or ‘Business area’) oraccount assignment concepts(like for example ‘Profit center’ or ‘Cost center’), must not be changed via the derivation type.
In technically terms these are characteristics that are either transferred into CO-PA in the SAP Standard System via the’Coding block’(that means via structure’COBL’) or, in case of a settlement rule, via table’COPADATA’.
Solution

Caution: The following changes represent a modification which is not contained in the SAP Standard System. Test this modification in detail before using it productively.
Replace the placeholders ‘XXXXX’, ‘YYYYY’ or ‘ZZZZZ’ in the attached correction instructions with the field name(s) of the characteristics which are supposed to be changed in the derivation of characteristics. After the implementation of the correction the affected characteristics are always changeable in the derivation of characteristics. Therefore ensure in the Customizing of the characteristics derivation that the affected characteristics are only overwritten in the required cases.
Consider: After the implementation of the attached correctionerror messageKE396can be issued with regard to the affected characteristics. In these cases you can apply the solution from Note 129975 for the characteristics ‘Plant’ (’WERKS’) and ‘Business area’ (’GSBER’) by which the validation of these characteristics is switched-off and thus error message KE396 is not issued.
